The Yeni Cami (New Mosque) is one of the most significant ottoman monuments of Komotini, decorated with the world-renown Iznik (Nice) tiles. The Mosque was built at the end of the 16 century, in 1585, during the reign of Sultan Murat III, by the former Imperial Financial Minister Ekmekcioglu Ahmet Efendi. It was built in accordance with the characteristics of the classic ottoman architecture, and is covered by a central dome and five smaller ones at the rear end, the prayer area.
